COMMISSION MEETING

April 12, 2010

 

Present

 

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 6:10 pm by Chairman Jerry Glass.

 

Public Comments

There were no public comments at this time.

 

Minutes

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 8, 2010 meeting; motion seconded by Mr. Lindsay; all in favor.

 

Financial Reports

Mr. Lindsay made a motion to approve the financial reports as submitted for the period ending March 31, 2010; motion was seconded by Mrs. Trevino; all in favor.

 

Project Status Report

Strategic Planning Meeting

Mr. Stuber informed the Commission that the City of Goose Creek is holding their annual Strategic Planning Meeting at Wampee, April 29 & 30.  He reported that recreation and annexation will not be discussed at that time but he is gathering information for that discussion to be held in the future.

 

Grant

Mrs. Glover reported that she is starting work on a grant application and will keep the staff updated as more information becomes available.

 

Dogwood Park

Mr. Stuber reported that the ex-police officer who is living at the park will be moving on or before June 1st.  He recommends that we don’t replace the live-in officer right now; instead the recommendation was to monitor and evaluate the situation on a continual basis.  Mr. Glass suggested a police decoy car might be parked there to deter vandalism.

 

A discussion was also held on the pros and cons of leaving the park unlocked 24 hours per day.  This policy might be revisited in the future.

 

Skate park in Columbia

Mr. Stuber reported that the new skate park in Columbia was budgeted to cost $350,000 and came in under budget at around $275,000.

 

New Business

Parks Report:

Mr. Stuber reported that the spring baseball season has started and the parks department has worked hard to prepare the fields for play.

 

 

Recreation Report:

Mrs. Heiselman updated the Commission on upcoming sports and events. 

 

The spring sports spectacular will be held on Saturday, April 17th.

 

New special events this spring include an outdoor movie on June 5th.

 

Director’s Report

None at this time.

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to close the meeting at 6:40 p.m.; the motion was seconded by Mr. Lindsay, all in favor.
