COMMISSION MEETING

August 10, 2009

·        Commission: Chairman Jerry Glass, Nancy Trevino, Tom Lindsay, Edwin Hiott, and Milton Terre

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Chairman Jerry Glass.

Public Comments

None at this time.

Minutes

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 13, 2009 meeting; seconded by Mr. Hiott; all in favor.

Financial Reports

Mr. Terre made a motion to approve the financial reports as submitted for the period ending July 31, 2009; motion was seconded by Mrs. Trevino, all in favor.

Project Status Report

Oak Creek Park

Mr. Stuber reported that he had met again with several homeowners from Oak Creek about the playground area.  The homeowners have expressed an interest in having three designated areas for different age children.

Mr. Stuber stated that he will look into their ideas and try to accomplish their goals.

City Council Meeting

Mr. Stuber reminded the Commission that there is a meeting at City Hall with the Mayor at 6 P.M. on August 12th.  This meeting should consist of how the City and the Commission work together to help with our ideas for the future.

New Business

Parks Report

Mr. Stuber reported that the maintenance crew is busy preparing for football and soccer.  These fall sports will be played at Dogwood Park and Foster Creek Park.

Mrs. Trevino asked if the bridge at St. James Park had to be replaced because of vandalism.  Mr. Stuber answered that vandalism was not the reason; a tree had fallen and it was also rotting.

Mrs. Trevino asked if the window at the Community Center that had been shot at had been replaced yet.  Mr. Stuber answered yes and because it was a double pane window it was expensive.

Recreation Report:

Mr. Glass went over the schedule of events that will be coming up.

Mr. Glass made a statement that the All Star teams did not place but did participate.  Mr. Stuber added that if the teams go and compete it is a success whether they win or lose.

Mr. Terre asked Mr. Stuber to consider getting a bell or buzzer put at the top of the climbing wall for the kids to feel some accomplishment.  Mr. Stuber said he will look into it.

Mr. Terre made a motion to close the meeting at 6:30pm; the motion was seconded by Mr. Lindsay, all in favor.

The next regularly scheduled meeting is September 14, 2009 at 6 p.m.
