COMMISSION MEETING

October 12, 2009

 

Present

·        Commission: Chairman Jerry Glass, Nancy Trevino, Tom Lindsay, Edwin Hiott, Andrea Glover, Milton Terre and David Kennedy

·        Staff: Director Gary Stuber and Carrie Stika

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 5:55 pm by Chairman Jerry Glass.

Public Comments

There were no public comments at this time.

Minutes

Mr. Hiott made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 14, 2009, meeting; seconded by Mr. Terre; all in favor.

Financial Reports

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to approve the financial reports as submitted for the period ending September 30, 2009; motion was seconded by Mr. Kennedy, all in favor

Project Status Report

Oak Creek Park

Mr. Stuber reported that he had met with four playground suppliers and their bids are due to him by Friday October 16th. 

Mr. Stuber stated that he will share the bids with the Oak Creek Home Owners and then bring them to the next Commission meeting.  His next goal once the Commission agrees on a bid will be to get it approved through City Council.

Mrs. Trevino asked if the staff will be working on the other parks once Oak Creek is done.  Mr. Stuber said yes, that we have to work on one park at a time.

City Council Meeting

Mr. Stuber informed the Commission that there will be a second and final reading of the budgets before it is approved.  He will provide copies of the approved budget to the Commissioners at the next meeting.

Auditor

Mr. Stuber reported to the Commission that he has spoke with the Auditor and he will be finished with the 2008 audit before the next Commission meeting.  Mr. Kennedy asked if this will be the last audit that the Commission will have to pay for.  Mr. Stuber answered yes.

Ditch at Foster Creek Park

Mrs. Trevino asked about the ditch between Foster Creek Park and Goose Creek Primary School.  Mr. Stuber answered that he had called the County and they were working on cutting the ditch area

New Business

Parks Report:

Mr. Stuber informed the Commission that the maintenance crew is working on a new technique for the driveway at Dogwood Park so that it does not wash away.

Mr. Glass asked if the staff will be using the four acres donated by Centex on Liberty Hall Road to the City of Goose Creek.  Mr. Stuber answered yes that the staff will be using the space for extra soccer fields.  Mr. Stuber said that there is a lot of grass to cut but it is good property.

Mr. Kennedy asked if Foster Creek Park was open on Sundays.  Mr. Stuber stated that yes we have staff open it every Sunday at 9 A.M.  Mr. Terre voiced his opinion on the parking around Foster Creek Road.  Mr. Stuber stated that Mr. Fesler has been taking action by calling the police and they have been cooperating with us on this matter.

Recreation Report:

Mr. Kennedy asked if the Recreation staff was involved in the City’s H1N1 virus training.  Mr. Stuber stated that all employees were required to attend the seminar and that everyone is actively involved including the purchase of flu shots for all employees.

Mr. Glass informed the Commission on his meeting that he and Chris Fesler had with the Naval Weapon Station Directors.  Mr. Glass stated that he felt good about the meeting and dialogue that took place.  The Directors were interested in more fields for their adult softball teams.  Their facilities will never be available to the public but maybe could work out permission for a swim team or baseball team to play at their facilities.  Mr. Glass stated that there will be additional meetings to work out the details.

Mr. Terre asked what the status of the skate park.  Mr. Stuber stated the staff and Commission needed to keep bringing up these types of activities to the City so that conversations will continue to take place.

Mr. Hiott made a motion to close the meeting at 6:25pm; the motion was seconded by Mr. Kennedy, all in favor.
