COMMISSION MEETING

September 14, 2009

 

Present

 

 

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Chairman Jerry Glass.

 

Public Comments

There were no public comments at this time.

 

Chairman Jerry Glass introduced Mrs. Andrea Glover to the Commission.  He stated that Mrs. Glover has been appointed by Councilman Bob Call to the vacant seat on the Recreation Commission.  Mr. Stuber stated that he expects to receive the official notification soon.

 

Minutes

Mr. Terre made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 10, 2009 meeting; motion seconded by Mrs. Trevino; all in favor.  Mr. Terre made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 12, 2009 special meeting with one minor grammatical change on page 2; motion seconded by Mrs. Trevino; all in favor.  

 

Financial Reports

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to approve the financial reports as submitted for the period ending August 31, 2009; motion was seconded by Mr. Kennedy; all in favor.  Mr. Stuber updated the Commission on the current status of the budget balance and cash position. 

 

Project Status Report

Climbing Wall Buzzer

Mr. Stuber reported that the staff has purchased a buzzer for the top of the climbing wall.  It will be installed soon.  When participants climb to the top of the wall they will be able to ring the buzzer and this will give them an incentive.

 

Playground Equipment for Oak Creek Park

Mr. Stuber stated that the homeowners’ suggestions have been incorporated into specifications and bid packages were sent out last week to four playground equipment companies.

 

Audit for 2008

Mr. Stuber informed the Commission that the audit for 2008 is not completed yet.  He will send out copies as soon as he receives them from the Auditor.

 

Budget for 2010

Copies of the proposed budget for 2010 were distributed to the Commission.  This is the budget that has been presented to City Council.

 

New Business

Maintenance Report:

 

Mr. Kennedy commented on the poor condition of the grass at the Community Center.  Mr. Stuber stated that herbicide had been put out to kill the weeds and the area is very wet.  A decision will have to be made soon on how to improve the area.

 

Mrs. Trevino asked who is responsible for the ditch by the bridge between Foster Creek Park and Goose Creek Primary School.  She stated that it is overgrown and would like to see it properly maintained.  Mr. Stuber will look into this and try to get the area cleaned up.

 

Recreation Report

Mrs. Heiselman reported that football and soccer season started on September 12th.

 

The Farmers Market will be ending on September 24th.

 

 

Executive Session

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to go into Executive Session at 6:23 pm to discuss a personnel matter relating to the budget; motion seconded by Mr. Terre, all in favor.

 

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to come out of Executive Session at 6:44 pm; motion seconded by Mr. Hiott, all in favor.

 

No action was taken in Executive Session.

 

Closing Public Comments

Mrs. Trevino made a motion to close the meeting at 6:45 p.m.; the motion was seconded by Mr. Terre, all in favor.
